Today's question: Do you judge a book by its cover?
My answer: Yes! I love a great cover, I really dislike a bad cover and I am reluctant to buy a book if I don't like the cover as well. I think cover art is really important and the writing might be great, but a lot of people won't ever know if they pass it by due to a boring or plain cover.
... and the Blog Hop isn't being done this week so no extra question. Oh well!
Pretty covers always lure me in! I think they are getting wise to this, and are making them all pretty now. lol!
ReplyDeleteI think it's just in a readers nature. We're like bugs to light the more interesting the cover...the more interesting the book maybe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow, I returned the favor!
ReplyDeletelove the header btw!
Hopping through. A bad cover definitely can be a turnoff, although I often still read the book.

Hey! Thanks so much for the add, hopping back through. How much do you love your nook color? I have been debating, though I hear it uses a lot of battery.
ReplyDeleteHelena @ Vamps R Us
I totally judge a book by its cover and am not ashamed to admit it! LOL

Thanks everyone and I absolutely ADORE my NookColor! I think it's the best ereader out there and I am so glad it took me awhile to buy an ereader so this one could come out! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I surely do judge a book by the cover. Not always but more often then not. I'm known for not reading synopsis so if your cover doesn't show me what I want to know or if someone doesn't recommend it... chances are I'm reading someone else's book.

Hi Sandra~
ReplyDeleteI like your answer, it's so true! Without a good cover even a good book doesn't stand a chance.. sad, but true.
Thanks for stopping by! i'm following :)
Thanks so much for following! I am returning the favor :) Happy reading! Looking forward to seeing more of your reviews
ReplyDeleteHi, Sandra! Just following back to your blog. I've actually been a follower for a while, now. I changed my layout a couple of weeks ago, so things look completely different over there. Gone are the polka dots and brown and blue motif. I'm still me, though! LOL Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteMarla @ Starting the Next Chapter
I agree with AngelicNytmare above. We are like bugs to a light or moths to a flame when it comes to covers. Beauty attracts. That's why it's part of advertising. Long ago covers were just colored material over board.
ReplyDeleteGreat site Sandra and thank you for the follow! I'm returning the favor =) Have a great Friday!
Old follower stopping by :)

A bad cover won't keep me from buying it if I think it will be a good read. Everyone judges though.
ReplyDeleteI love books with a good cover but I also read books if they have a good synopsis and dont have a great cover page.

I think the industry is doing better these days with covers as well in that the covers are better matching the characters or story inside and they are making them pleasing to the eye so that someone doesn't accidentally pass by a good book because of a bad cover.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!

Hi Sandra! New follower here.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.
Happy Follow Friday!!!

Yes, I often judge books by their covers, and I'm so glad when my old favorites get much-needed makeovers.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious: are book covers more or less important to you now that you're a Nook reader?

The cover is the first thing that attracts you to the book.
ReplyDeletestop and see mine and my giveaways.
I agree with your sentiments completely. Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI'm a die-hard cover judge. I admit it.
ReplyDeleteNew follower here and I've added you to my blogroll as well! I have a Nook Color, too :)
I think Im one of the few who do not judge a book by its cover.

I have learned the hard way to never buy a book based off a pretty cover. I'm already a follower! My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews

ReplyDeleteGreat answer. I think it's really important as well! A book with a great cover can sell just because of said cover, while a great story might not be bought at all because of a bad one.
ReplyDeleteI admit to judging books myself. But only while looking for them. If I've heard about something I think I'll like, it doesn't matter too much. It's always the storyline that will win in the end!
You have a really nice blog and I'm a new follower! :) My FF can be found here!
I always judge a book by it's cover! I can't help it; I'm superficial like that, haha :) But a book is a book no matter what! Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteCrystal @ Elegantly Bound Books
I chose the regular Nook over the Nook Color for 2 reasons: battery life, and since it's more like paper than a computer screen it's easier on my eyes. Just a little tidbit fyi.
ReplyDeleteI, too, will pick up a book with a good cover faster than one without. I make exceptions for authors I like.
I've never had any problem with my eyes when using my NC, because it has various color and brightness settings. I read on it every day and haven't experienced any eye strain or the battery dying either. Now, if you can't ever charge yours then it's good to get a regular Nook or Kindle, but if you don't have a problem charging it before you fall asleep or in the morning, it should never die on you. And the eye strain concern doesn't really apply with all the different settings possible I've found, but I do find that B&N doesn't have the best ebook selection, so that would be a reason to get a Kindle. Thanks for the comment. :)
